This is a description of the tools I used to make this website.

I write in Obsidian wherever possible. The exceptions are where I am forced to write in Microsoft Word (usually for journals) or Google Docs (usually to collaborate). Obsidian is excellent. It's really an "everything" app for writing, mainly because it's so extensible. The killer features for me are that it integrates well with my reference manager (Zotero), and that the content is all Markdown formatted. Markdown lets me easily convert it to Word or LaTeX using Pandoc.[1]

Accordingly, this website is written and managed in Obsidian. My website is simply a collection of markdown files in a folder in my Obsidian Vault. I use the obsidian-digital-garden plugin to publish the content, via GitHub to be deployed on Vercel (as detailed in the obsidian-digital-garden docs). I modified the default layouts a little, but only a little. I use the Typewriter Obsidian theme, with some custom modifications.

  1. If you would like to know how to do this, please send me an email. I can write a blog post on it if there is demand. ↩︎
